Cheese Tasting with Kyle Hopkins of Surly Brewing Company

Kyle Hopkins has always been one of our favorite people to work with and we’re thrilled to have him back to the farm to share new beers with us! Kyle loves pairing beer with all different kinds of food, but especially cheese. As a Certified Cicerone and a veteran of the beer industry he is constantly experimenting with different ways that the ingredients and flavors in beer interact with the ingredients and flavors in food. Kyle is a good friend of Green Dirt Farm: he had a hand in creating the menu for the Boulevard Beerhall when it opened in 2015 and he talked us into making a washed rind cheese with Boulevard’s Sixth Glass (it was stellar) and he has led many Green Dirt Farm events including a memorable beer dinner that he cooked (we still dream about the chicken liver mousse on peanut butter cookies). Now Kyle is the Missouri and Kansas representative for Surly Brewing Company out of Minneapolis. Surly Brewing opened in 2006 and quickly rose to prominence when it was named Brewery of the Year by Beer Advocate in 2007. Surly is known for bold IPAs, amazingly smooth Imperial stouts and a portfolio of other beers that love being paired with cheese. Kyle resides in East Brookside with his wife, two sons, one dog and three chickens.
