The Cheese Kitchen Manager, under the supervision of the Director of Dairy Operations and Executive Director, leads the cheese kitchen team in daily production activities. While 60-80% of their time is spent making and aging our line of sheep and cow milk cheeses, the rest is dedicated to various organizational and administrative tasks that keep our cheesemaking program running smoothly. They can expect to work between 35 and 45 hours per week depending on the time of year, our busier season being between March and October.
The salary range for this position is between $40-$45,000, with the company providing a basic healthcare plan and PTO increasing by number of years of employment at GDF (2 weeks for year one, 3 weeks for year two, up to 4 weeks for year five). Relocation cost reimbursement may be negotiated.
Requirements include management experience (with great references!), good organizational skills, and the ability to work well with folks from diverse backgrounds. You must be able to work on your feet for long periods, lift up to 50lbs, work in both hot and cold environments, and enthusiastically follow (and help to continually improve!) our strict food-safety protocols.
Preference will be given to folks with some experience in cheese or artisan food production, cheese mongering, or similar industries (cooking, brewing, crafting/manufacturing, etc.)! The higher end of the salary range requires some experience in cheesemaking.
